Southend Foodbank has got together with local Leigh-on-Sea folk heroes the Famous Potatoes to record a version of the Twelve Days of Christmas – but with food donations requests as lyrics.
The song is called the 12 Crates of Christmas, which is acting as a food-drive campaign.
It comes as the foodbank has seen a 59 per cent increase in the number of emergency food parcels this year – the most parcels the foodbank has ever provided.
As a result, more than £10,000 a month is being spent by the foodbank for donations.
Cass Francis, communications and campaigns co-ordinator at Southend Foodbank and who came up with the idea, said: “All the people involved in this volunteered their time and expertise, and we are so grateful to them all.
“This year we don’t have the finances available to buy Christmas extras to give to our guests the way we normally would, so this Christmas food-drive is really our way of encouraging people to think about others.”
Where are you?
