Dear Friends, Please excuse this less than personal contact re Shoebury GH. As you will imagine, we have a considerable number of people and organisations to contact. At the outset, we want to thank you for your support in person and prayer for the church over many years, the Lord has blest the work, many have found Jesus as Saviour in this time.
SHOEBURY GOSPEL HALL
Wakering Avenue, Shoeburyness, SS39BE
The Situation
The members have had to make decisions about the future of the Church. The past few months have been very difficult due to health problems resulting in the frequent cancellation of services and activities. Bearing this in mind, we have been praying for some time about the ability to continue to carry on the Christian work in this building. The church has been on this site for 105 years.
Actions
1. Over the past two or three years, we have tried to get other Christian groups to come and use the building and share some of the costs. We have involved the Trustees over this time, updating our Trust Deed, but there are still basic clauses that must be followed, hence the lack of success in this option.
2. The funds that are needed to maintain the work of the other activities of the church, Family Services, Craft and PITSTOP, have gradually been depleted over time. While the extra costs are quite low, and often subsidised, the main draw on our reserves have been the monthly gas and electricity bills and the annual insurance. This means that within the next few months we will have used all our reserves and will not be able to meet current commitments. Attempts have been made to reduce these costs but the past and current costs within these industries have not helped.
3. Alongside the financial position, we have a concern for our health and our physical ability to sustain the level of activities.
Decision
The church will hold its final service on the 27th of July with a Family Service at 11am. This would be followed by refreshments as usual. Craft4All has not restarted and the final PITSTOP Coffee morning will be 23rd July.
After 27th July
To keep contact with each other, we plan to meet monthly on a Sunday at 11am for a service at our house. We could also meet up from time to time for a coffee and chat at either Queen Bee or Super Chef.
Closure Clear
We must attempt to clear the contents before handing the building back to the Trustees. We would wish the contents to be used by other churches, so, we are holding an open day on:
SATURDAY 9TH AUGUST from 10am to 3pm
We invite any interested churches or groups to visit and take anything they might be able to use. We are not setting any prices but look for donations to send to Missionaries we have supported.
This is not an exhaustive list of items but use your imagination for the usual things that a church will have.
Chairs- padded wood and stackable plastic
Tables- variety, including ‘gopak’
Kitchen equipment
