Held at Southend City Baptist Church on 10 June 2025, No Place to Lay My Head? was a collaborative housing conference hosted by the Anglican, Baptist, and Methodist churches and the Love Southend network. Bringing together voices from across Southend, the evening aimed to inform, engage, and inspire a Christian response to the urgent housing challenges facing the region.
The event opened with a keynote address from Southend City Council, offering a detailed overview of current housing needs in Southend and the surrounding areas. Their insights highlighted the shortage of affordable housing, and the impact this has particularly on vulnerable communities.
The heart of the evening featured powerful contributions from The Malachi Project, Hope Three:16, and SEAL (South Essex Alliance of Landlords). Each speaker shared real-life experiences of housing insecurity and how their organisations are working to bring hope and practical solutions to those in need.
A vibrant marketplace was set up, where local charities showcased their work, provided resources, and encouraged attendees to get involved. The atmosphere was one of unity, urgency, and faith-led action.
Attended by church members, charity leaders, and concerned residents, the conference served as a catalyst for deeper involvement in addressing homelessness and housing instability. Rooted in compassion and justice, No Place to Lay My Head? reminded all present that faith calls us not only to awareness, but to action.
