Jobs & Volunteering: Could You Be Part of God’s Work on Southend’s Streets?

Southend Street Pastors are seeking new leaders to help shape the next season of this vital ministry

For many years, Southend Street Pastors have been a calm, compassionate and prayerful presence in our city — offering Listening, Caring and Helping to those out enjoying Southend’s night-time economy, and quietly supporting the emergency services and wider community.

Now, as the ministry looks to the future, two key opportunities have opened up for Christians who feel called to serve the city in a strategic and deeply meaningful way.

Whether you are gifted in organisation and leadership, or have a heart for prayer and spiritual support, this could be your moment to step into something God is already doing across Southend.

Street Pastor Co-Ordinator

(Part-time paid role)

This is a pivotal role at the heart of Southend Street Pastors.

The Co-Ordinator works alongside the Trustees and Management Team to oversee, develop and support the whole Street Pastor operation in Southend — from volunteer recruitment and training, to liaising with churches, police, the council and partner organisations.

This role may suit you if you:

  • Have a heart for mission and social action
  • Enjoy bringing people together and helping teams flourish
  • Are comfortable with organisation, communication and problem-solving
  • Can confidently represent Street Pastors across churches and community settings

The role is part-time (around 20 hours per month) and is paid at £15 per hour, with expenses reimbursed. Flexibility is important, as the work follows the rhythms of the ministry and the needs of the city.

This post is a Genuine Occupational Requirement for a committed Christian who embraces the ethos and values of the Street Pastor movement.

Prayer Co-Ordinator

(Voluntary role with expenses covered)

Prayer is at the very heart of Street Pastors — and this role exists to ensure that no patrol, volunteer or situation is ever without prayerful support.

The Prayer Co-Ordinator leads and nurtures teams of Prayer Pastors and Prayer Partners, helping to build a strong, united prayer ministry for Street Pastors and for the wider city of Southend.

This role may suit you if you:

  • Have a deep personal prayer life
  • Are passionate about encouraging others in prayer
  • Love seeing the Church come together across denominations
  • Are happy to gently lead, organise and communicate prayer needs

The role typically involves 1–2 hours per week, including organising prayer rotas, facilitating online prayer gatherings, producing prayer updates, and working closely with the Street Pastor Co-Ordinator.

This is a voluntary position, but it is a key leadership role within the ministry and the Management Team.

One Ministry – Many Churches – One City

Both roles offer a unique opportunity to:

  • Serve across denominations
  • Support volunteers who regularly step out in faith
  • Partner with statutory agencies and local organisations
  • Play a meaningful part in the spiritual and social wellbeing of Southend

You do not need to have been a Street Pastor already — but you do need a heart for the city, a willingness to serve, and a sense that God may be inviting you to step forward.

Could that be you?
