As Clive Baggallay who leads Love Southend’s City Chaplaincy ministry makes himself available to serve the city with the love of God doors of opportunity open for him.
Project Southchurch
As chaplain to this coalition of residents, traders and businesses in Southchurch, Clive was invited to join with team members, the police (a ward officer and community inspector) and the cybercrime team visiting businesses in Southchurch Road. The visit was a first response to a request by Project Southchurch for a greater focus on Southchurch by the police and other agencies. The walk was well received by both residents and businesses with 15 businesses signing up for cybercrime assistance. Only half of the Road was completed and early next year the other half will also be covered. Clive spoke to people about the possibility of community pastors getting involved in the area.
Project Southchurch asked Clive to attend the Southend Council Remembrance & Armed Forces Covenant presentation on their behalf. At least 2.4% of the city’s pop is ex-military and between 5-10k residents are family members of the veterans. There were various presentations and afterwards Clive got into conversation with the Commanding Officer Army Cadet Force. She explained that there are only two pastors in Colchester who engage with the cadets. Locally there are 1000 12-18 years old and 40 staff. This may create another opportunity for chaplaincy services to be offered!
Remembrance Service at Southend Police station:
It was a privilege for Clive to be invited to the police Service of Remembrance led by Police Chaplain Steve Currell. Many officers and support staff attended the poignant service. Forging stronger links with other areas of chaplaincy in the city is an important aspect of Clive’s role.
