Trustee Opportunities

Opportunities at Southend City Baptist Church

57 West & Clarence Road are two member churches of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and have worked independently of each other for 5 years out of our city centre premises. Making the bold decision to open the dividing door between the two communities, we now work as one faith community seeking to reach out to others across the city, with various drop in sessions and groups during the week and shared Sunday services from 10.45am.

Our trustee team is made up of six people, with capacity for up to 12, from what formerly was 57 West & Clarence Road Baptist Churches. Some of our trustees have been members of either 57 or CRBC previously, and others have come from other local churches and shared ‘dual membership’ with us while they give their time to support our community. For those who are yet to meet us, Southend City Baptist is a church plant on Clarence Road among adults who are at risk of homelessness. We have two trustee vacancies at this time, though there are always opportunities to get to know our community ‘on the ground.’

Governance Review
We have a current vacancy for a trustee to review our policies and procedures. Working alongside our church secretary, you will be able to bring recommendations to the wider trustee team, setting out a schedule of maintenance / review and collating the policies of two independent churches who have merged to form a new, single faith community in the centre of Southend. We are seeking to build new processes that are efficient and compliant with Charity Commission standards and your contribution has the potential to shape the structure of our charity moving forwards.

Premises Oversight
We have a current vacancy for a trustee to undertake a role that might traditionally be known as ‘deacon for buildings.’ Working with the support of our Premises Co-ordinator, you will be able to future-proof this ministry by exploring how the building can be developed to support an exciting vision for the future. This role also involves oversight of related policies (as approved by the trustees), compliance with building regulations and collation of risk assessments for on site activities.

Staff Role – Supported Housing Manager
We have also launched an exciting new project in the newly renovated manse, thanks to the support of the Avenue Trust. What used to be the Clarence Road manse is now supported housing for up to four adults and we are looking for a part time manager to oversee this development of our ministry. Job descriptions are available from Stuart Elliot (Church Secretary) on request at southendsecetary57@yahoo.com

We look forward to hearing from you!
