THE Morrisons Foundation has donated £25,000 to Love Southend, a local charity that supports the local homeless community with meals and emergency accommodation.
The donation from the Morrisons Foundation will fund the purchase of a new 9-seater minibus. The vehicle will prove an invaluable help to the charity, enabling them to transport disadvantaged people to and from their facilities as well as deliver donated food, clothing and other essential items to help the most in-need members of the local community.
Debra Murphy, Community Champion at the Morrisons store in Southend presented the donation to the charity. She said: “I’m absolutely over the moon that the Morrisons Foundation has been able to provide such a massive donation to a great local charity.
In addition to providing this huge amount of money for the new minibus, we also help by providing food vouchers to enable them to cook and distribute curries to vulnerable people on the last Tuesday of each month. Having supported the charity for some time, I know that together we will continue to make a genuine difference to their activities and homeless people in the community. It really does make me proud. Helping local charities is at the heart of what the Foundation is all about and I’m so happy that we can provide this grant.”
The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives. Since launching over £26 million has been donated to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
