A local charity is holding an in-depth bereavement and loss course for professionals, designed to help them develop the skills and knowledge needed to support and care for people who are grieving.
The five-day interactive course, delivered by Havens Hospices’ experienced facilitators in a safe, confidential and supportive environment, allows the development and discovery of people’s own response to grief and loss and how they can use this to support others.
Designed for professionals who support bereaved people or families and wish to enhance their skills and knowledge, it is ideal for those working in counselling, psychology, social work, healthcare, human resources and education.
The course covers recognising and understanding emotions, biases and reactions when supporting individuals experiencing grief. Understanding the theories of bereavement and loss. Developing skills in attentive listening and empathetic response to individuals experiencing loss. The dynamics of grief within the context of the extended family unit and exploring anticipatory grief, where feelings of grief or loss are felt before a loss happens.
Carole Raven, a Havens Hospices Counsellor and one of the facilitators of the course, says, “As a hospice, we understand that a person’s experience of grief and loss will be individual to them. People are affected in many different ways, and that’s why this experiential course offers professionals the opportunity to gain more knowledge and understanding of one of the hardest things we will go through in life.”
Havens Hospices provides specialist care and support across Essex for people of all ages living with incurable conditions and their families so they can get the most from life and continue to make every day count with the time they have together.
The course costs £495 and takes place over five days, starting on the 15th March to the 13th June. Attendees must commit to attending all five days in order to complete the training.
