King’s Money Advice Centre (KMAC)

Supporting vulnerable adults and families with free face-to-face debt advice

Debt is a huge issue. It impacts every area of life. When personal finance is out of control, when debt entraps, it is like a ball and chain in most areas of life. It inhibits well-being.

Debt happens when life can spin out of control, circumstances radically change, and health and mental health become a very real concern.

When family life, relationships, poor health and poor mental health are exacerbated by debt, then the absence or the control of debt is part of the answer towards making a positive difference.

King's Money Advice Centre (KMAC) was established in 2009 by King's Church with the vision and purpose of making a difference to those struggling with their finances. It was envisioned that in dealing with debts then many other issues would also be helped with. As a locally FCA authorised debt advice charity they are able to deal with the immediate needs and challenges of those without a sense of voice or power to deal with their debts.

KMAC was the first and is the longest running Christian debt advice service in the city. Being locally FCA regulated and authorised enables KMAC to deal directly with creditors, to give authorised debt advice, (the FCA Financial Conduct Authority require all debt advice to be regulated and authorised) and to react immediately to any changes in circumstances in their client's situation. They have also represented and supported clients before Judges and PIP tribunals. They deal directly with creditors, debt collection agencies, DWP, HMRC, Bailiffs and Southend-on-Sea City Council.

KMAC is part of Community Money Advice, a national ministry with over 180 centres.
