Southend Street Pastors have been helping vulnerable people by taking Jesus onto the streets on most Fridays and Saturday nights since May 2005. Street Pastors is about Christians rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in practically responding to the problems of crime and safety. Street Pastors are like beacons on our streets and I want to see them shining brightly in every constituency.” (David Burrowes, Patron of Ascension Trust)
In 2006 we were given the late Queens Award for voluntary service which is the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK. Two members of our team attended a royal Garden party at Buckingham Palace where they saw the late Queen and other members of the Royal Family.
In 2023 we will be out as usual on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons. We also hope to put out a monthly Saturday evening patrol. We support vulnerable people in different situations by offering a listening ear, giving flip flops, to females to prevent injury. Giving out bottles of water and foil blankets to people at risk of exposure and hypothermia. We also clear away broken glass and bottles of the streets as they are potential weapons. We also carry out basic First aid where necessary and bring calmness to the streets of our city. Street Pastors are willing to engage with people in an open and non-judgmental manner, whatever their situation. They maintain confidentiality so far as is legal.
Southend Street Pastors love to engage with our community so we are holding a publicity day in the Victoria Shopping Centre on Saturday 25th November 2023. We are looking to recruit new Street and Prayer Pastors and have the following volunteering roles available
