If anyone doubts the power of creative art to impact people and raise awareness of issues in society just think ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’ TV series. Business heads and politicians galvanised into immediate action to address a long-standing injustice that had been dragging on for years.
Imagine mainstream TV, film, radio, social media channels, book-writing for adults and children, art work of every kind, dance – all immersed in and translating the values of God’s kingdom into every area of peoples’ lives because creatively gifted Christians are right there commanding respect and commissions with a passion to see their area of creativity redeemed and restored to God’s original plan.
This is an evening when we want to celebrate some folk here in Southend who are on that journey, with a desire to use their God given creativity to bring the author of their gifting glory.
Marcus Wood runs Fire and Iron Productions, a film-making enterprise which has won a prestigious short film award in the very competitive American Christian film-making world. Marcus is passionate about serving churches to enable their presentation of Biblical truth to be as effective as possible by producing bespoke short films for specific church contexts.
Meg Cannon is also a filmmaker with a passion to enable young women to make informed and powerful decisions over issues that affect their lives and relationships. Meg worked for the Girls’ Brigade Ministries for some time creating powerful and insightful film material for their work among girls and young women. God has opened a door for her to currently be working with a team producing film for educational settings.
Sonny Green is re-shaping his engagement in the rapping world after coming into a life-changing encounter with God. His passion is to bring God’s love and truth into people’s lives, strengthening the faith of Christians and introducing Jesus to not-yet Christians through the ever-powerful place music has in their lives.
Each one will share their God story, the creative work they are engaged in, and their dream of what God could do. They will be sharing how churches or individuals could support them. And we will have the privilege of praying for them before the evening is done.
We are aware that there are creatively gifted Christians throughout our city and although we are focused on just three for this evening, anyone engaged in the creative arts in Southend whose desire is to carry the vibrant creativity of God’s genius in their work are very welcome.
