Our first network meeting of the year will be Sunday 26 January 7:30 pm meeting in the Wilberforce Room (aka The Living Room) at Southend Christian Fellowship – entrance from the car park. In the first part of our time together Kemi Dowokpor will be explaining her “Jesus Jam” project and how Christain families in Southend can help. The objective of “Jesus Jam” is to help French children and young people learn English through engaging with Bible stories, drama and music, whilst being hosted by church families.

At a recent Servant Team meeting we agreed that the rest of that evening and the whole of February’s meeting would be given over to consulting with the network about what practical responses we want to make as a network to the wealth of information we received during 2019. We had some very interesting and challenging information from Ali Griffin, CEO of the Borough Council, from Dan Pratt about Modern Day Slavery (MDS) and Carol Compton about child exploitation.
Following Kim’s input we will take Dan’s session on Modern Slavery as our starting point. In the light of what Dan shared with us about MDS what can we do to promote and support the work to resist the impact of MDS in Southend?
