Welcoming Syrian and Afghan families to Southend-on-Sea

We are delighted to welcome Steve Tinning and Grant Gooding to this network gathering.

Steve, who is leaving his work at Leigh Road Baptist Church to take up a post in the Baptist Union of GB, has been working with others to support Syrian families and unaccompanied children being welcomed into Southend through the government’s resettlement scheme for 5 years. Steve will be outlining the way we as individuals and churches can play our part in welcoming and supporting these displaced folk, and updating us about the Afghan families and nationals being accommodated temporarily at the Park Inn.

Grant, a member of Southend Vineyard and founder of ‘Morning Light’ and ‘The Arabic-English Friendship Club’, will share his experiences of befriending and helping Arabic Muslim refugees, asylum-seekers and others in Southend and overseas. He will be chatting with some Muslim friends about their experiences of connecting with Christians and being in the UK over Zoom.

We shall take the opportunity to pray for Steve and Grant while they are with us.

If you are not able to join us in person you are welcome to join by Zoom.  For details of the call please email info@lovesouthend.org
