Southend Jesus Video Project - Phase One
Following on from the considerable interest in this project shown at the Mind the Gap sessions, a briefing meeting was held on Saturday 2nd July to launch the Jesus Video Project.
As not everyone who wanted to attend could be there, and some churches were unable to be represented, this document is designed to help bring you up to speed.
Below are the main points that need to be addressed NOW.
- Return the special Love Southend JVP Membership Agreement Form, sent in the last mailing. If you register before 31st December, Love Southend will pay the registration fee. After 1st January it will cost you £35. If you do not have a form then download one from the Love Southend Partner Zone. If all else fails contact Roger Folley or Shelia Bradley. Please do this now if you are intending to be part of Phase One (10th & 17th Sept).
- On registration a signed copy of the form (authorising you to benefit from the subsidised prices) will be returned to you along with a free copy of the JVP Project Handbook. Further copies of this are available from the Love Southend office at £5.00 each.
- Identify members of your team as described on page 9 of the Handbook. Meet ASAP to discuss the contents of the Handbook.
- Arrange for the Project Co-ordinator from your church, (or the Group Leader if you are joining with other churches), to attend a special JVP Project Leader’s Progress Meeting at St. Clement’s Church Leigh on Monday 1st August from 7.30pm – 9.30pm. If the leader is on holiday then please send someone else from the team.
- As soon as possible after 1st August order your materials at the discounted Love Southend prices. Orders must be placed and paid for by 12th August, using the special Order Form you will be sent.
- From 26th August, collect your materials from the Love Southend office.
- Order the Visitors’ Training Pack direct from Agapé using the order form in your JVP Evaluation Pack.
- Arrange for your Project Co-ordinator (or whoever will be training your visitors) to attend the JVP Trainers’ Training Morning (venue TBC) on Saturday 3rd September from 9.45am until 12.00 noon.
- Contact Roger Folley to let him know which roads you are intending to cover. This is vital to avoid duplication.
- Prayer-walk your selected roads during July/August.
- The Love Southend Week of Prayer starts on 5th September.
- Sept 7th – 8th - deliver letters and offer leaflets to selected homes.
- Saturday 10th Sept - visit to offer the videos.
- Saturday 18th Sept - return with the questionnaire.
- Thursday 22nd Sept - bring suitable enquirers to the Alpha Supper.
This is big. Very big. It will take commitment. A lot of commitment. Our aim is to offer everyone in Southend the chance to see a video, which could change their lives. This will not happen overnight. If you are not ready yet then still register and take part when it is right for you.
If you have any questions about the Southend Jesus Video Project, please contact the Love Southend office on 333319.
The big question is do you and your church want to be part of this initiative to take the Good News into our homes in Southend?

A free movie for Southenders
We often think of the story of Jesus of Nazareth as belonging to the Christian church, but actually it’s public property. It’s part of our history and our culture. Literally billions of people worldwide have seen this story in the form of the “JESUS” film - the most watched film in history. Now, it’s Southend’s chance.
Churches across the borough are joining together as part of a national initiative to attempt something quite extraordinary – to offer this film in DVD or VCR format to as many homes as possible in one Saturday afternoon.
Church members are digging into their own pockets to pay for these videos as part of Love Southend – a year long initiative involving over 50 local churches.
Love Southend’s Tony Anthony says, “We want everyone in Southend to have the chance to watch this movie in the comfort of their own home and tell us what they think of it. If people want to know more, we’re there to help. This isn’t a recruitment drive. We’re planning to visit as many homes as we can on Saturday 10th September, but we’ll be writing to those homes first to let them know.”
If your home gets missed, call the Love Southend office on 01702 333319 and they will make sure you get your free copy.
